530 Outfitters Striped Bass & Lake Bass Programs

At 530 Outfitters, we’re dedicated to delivering top-tier outdoor experiences with the most professional guides in the game. Our bass program is led by two of California’s best USCG Captains, both passionate about sharing the incredible striper and bass fisheries that our state has to offer. Whether you're new to bass fishing or chasing your personal best on the fly, our captains are here to help you make it happen.

Striper Fishing – Lower Sacramento River

Striper fishing in California has evolved, and the Lower Sacramento River now stands as the state’s premier striper fishery. With an increasing population of striped bass, we’re fortunate to have multiple fishing seasons and countless opportunities to chase these hard-fighting, line-ripping game fish.

The Lower Sac’s vast expanse provides ideal habitat for both migratory and resident striped bass. Migratory fish push upriver in big schools from March through May to spawn, while resident fish hold in the system year-round. Stripers range from 12” schoolies to trophy-class fish exceeding 30–50 lbs.

This is a 9-10wt game, with shooting lines, 2/0-4/0 flies, and aggressive strip sets. Mobility is key, and our guides utilize custom 22’ and 24’ Rogue Jet Boats, covering over 100 miles of river from Red Bluff to Colusa—this isn’t your typical float trip.

Our Captains, Hogan Brown and Adam Andreini, have spent more days exploring and pioneering this fishery on the fly than anyone. They bring decades of experience to ensure your time on the water is both productive and unforgettable.

Prime Season:

  • June–November

  • November - May (Excellent time to chase the trophy fish and migratory runs of fish if the conditions are right)

Spotted Bass – California Foothill & Valley Lakes

California’s foothill and valley lakes are home to some of the best spotted bass fishing in the country, especially during winter and spring when rivers and weather conditions can be suspect. If you’re looking for a scenic day on the water, surrounded by nature, while catching fish—this trip is for you. It’s a great option for both experienced anglers and beginners, making it perfect for kids or anyone new to fishing.

Unlike largemouth, spotted bass are aggressive predators, feeding on wakasagi minnows and threadfin shad, and they fight like an angry smallmouth.

During the cold months, the Float’n Fly technique is the go-to approach, while spring brings opportunities for topwater and baitfish patterns. Whether you’re a seasoned fly angler or just looking for something different, these fisheries offer an exciting challenge.

Prime Season:

  • November–May, plus summer evenings & early mornings
