Fly Fishing Report 4/29

Spring fishing is underway here in the north state, though some rivers have been affected by spring runoff. However, we anticipate them returning to normal fishing flows soon.

-Lower Sac: The lower Sacramento River has been our primary focus this spring. Fluctuating flows from a full Lake Shasta have made for a tougher bite than usual. Despite this, there are still great fishing days to be had. Some days require a bit more effort, but it's always a rewarding experience on the river. Current flows stand at 7,290 cfs.

-Upper Sac: Spring runoff has significantly impacted this river. Normally a favorite for this time of year, the lack of accessible fishing spots has made it less popular. We're hopeful that within the next month, the Upper Sac will recede, allowing us to enjoy one of our favorite springtime rivers once again.

-McCloud River: The McCloud has been a consistent producer of good fishing, with prime water conditions. This time of year is particularly exciting on the McCloud, with plenty of dry fly opportunities. May and June bring out the big bugs, making for exhilarating dry fly fishing. Don't miss your chance to throw big salmon dry flies and gold stone dry flies during these months!

-Hat Creek: Hat Creek has been a great walk and wade option. consistent flows has made good fishing and good hatches.

-Pit River: The Pit is completely blown out due to run off. We hope to see the muddy water clear soon so we can get back to an awesome walk and wade river.

-Shasta Lake: Shasta Lake has been a top option for bass fishing. Bass fishing right now is as good as it gets!
